158th CES receives federal energy, water management award

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vermont — The 158th Civil Engineering Squadron was recently awarded with a Federal Energy Management Program Federal Energy and Water Management Award from the U.S. Department of Energy, celebrating the procedures and policies they have implemented on base to increase energy efficiency, reduce spending, and preserve natural resources.

With only four hours of flight on its clock, an F-35 Lightning II from the 158th Fighter Wing out of the Vermont Air National Guard Base, South Burlington, Vt., receives fuel from a 434th Air Refueling Wing KC-135 Stratotanker from Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind., over the Midwest Sept. 19, 2019. The 158th FW is the first Air National Guard unit to receive the aircraft, and will be the second operational F-35 wing in the U.S. Air Force, and will receive a total of 20 over the following months. 434th ARW helps deliver first F-35s to Vermont ANG

GRISSOM AIR RESERVE BASE, Indiana — The 434th Air Refueling Wing refueled two F-35s over the Midwest during their delivery to the 158th Fighter Wing out of the Vermont Air National Guard Base, South Burlington, Vermont. The National Guard unit is the first Air National Guard unit to receive the aircraft.

Cooperative Lancer 2012

North Macedonia — About 40 members of the Vermont Army National Guard joined a dozen other countries in the former Yugoslav Republic of North Macedonia in May for a two-week long NATO exercise that was designed to enhance interoperability between participating countries. Named Cooperative Lancer and Longbow, the Vermont Army National Guard  members worked with fellow military men and women from more than a dozen NATO countries and NATO-partner countries. Vermont has had a good relationship with North Macedonia via the State Partnership Program since 1993 which has fostered close ties between the two groups.
