Guard Biathletes receive medals for Olympic showing
CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont — On May 14, four Vermont Army National Guard soldiers, members of the National Guard Biathlon Program, received medals and recognition for their participation on the US Biathlon Olympic Team during the 2022 Olympics held last February in Beijing.

Vermont National Guard, Austria formally recognize partnership

Vermont Guard to support training exercise Swift Response 22
CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont — More than 120 Vermont Army National Guard Soldiers will participate in training exercise Swift Response 22 in North Macedonia from May 11 to 17. Exercise Swift Response is an annual U.S. Army Europe and Africa multinational training exercise that takes place this year in Eastern Europe, the Arctic High North, Baltics, and Balkans from May 2-24.

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont — Eliminating the stigma around seeking mental health services is a goal for John Brutzman, the Vermont Guard’s new substance abuse prevention coordinator. “When I started this job, I would often hear that a solider could get trouble for seeking psychological health services, it’s just not the case, and I would like to see that stigma eradicated,” he said.

Vt. Guard hosts Level II Military Funeral Honors Train-the-Trainer certification
CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont — From April 4-15, 12 Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors Soldiers from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Ohio, New York and Vermont took part in a Level- II MFH Train-the-Trainer certification course at Camp Johnson in Colchester. This marked the first time the Vermont National Guard has ever hosted this certification course.

Vt. Guardsman earns master instructor badge
CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont — Staff Sgt. Andrew Fryburg, chief instructor at the 124th Regimental Training Institute’s modular training battalion was awarded the Master Instructor Badge on April 19, 2022. During the ceremony, Vermont National Guard Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Gregory Knight, remarked, “there are fewer that 100 Master Instructors across the Army, so that should give you an idea of the scope of this undertaking and the significance of the award, you are building the future leaders of the US Army.”

Vermont Soldier describes career path as 'a good unexpected'
CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont — For U.S. Army Sgt. Avah Eaton joining the Vermont Army National Guard brought many unexpected results. Among them, included applying for and accepting an offer to serve full-time in a human resources capacity with 3rd Battalion, 172nd Infantry Regiment (Mountain). Recently returning from a deployment to Southwest Asia, Eaton reenlisted when offered the Active Guard Reserve position.
