Vermont National Guard Solider completes French Desert Commando Course

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont — According to Spc. Caylen De Los Reyes, successfully completing the French Desert Commando Course not only improved individual readiness, the demanding training also helped the Vermont Guardsman prepare for the U.S. Army Special Forces Assessment and Selection course.

Deployment ceremonies signal end of 2021 departures

Vermont seeks to build upon partnership with North Macedonia

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont — Maj. Gen. Greg Knight, the state adjutant general, will travel to North Macedonia May 29, accompanied by Vermont Lt. Gov. Molly Gray and Lindsay Kurrle, the state secretary of commerce and community development, to discuss how the state might build upon the existing State Partnership Program into economic areas.

Remote TAC-V Training

JERICHO, Vt. — The Vermont Army National Guard’s Security and Support (S&S) aviation unit spent the warm spring days of May traveling around the state to practice their skills in new locations. On one of these missions, the unit inserted two soldiers into a remote location to independently set up and operate communications equipment known as tactical video downlink (TAC-V).

Anshan native trades Qianshan Mountain for Green Mountains

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont — Spc. Mike Liu, a native of Anshan, China, joined the Vermont Army National Guard through the Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest program, which allows non-U.S. citizens with certain skills to enlist and apply for citizenship.

TSgt. Nathan Bourn, a munitions specialist assigned to the 158th Fighter Wing, is recognized by Beth Saradarian, executive director of the Rutland County Humane Society at the Poultney Fire Department, Poultney, VT.

Vermont ARNG holds sendoff for Task Force Mansfield

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont — The Vermont Army National Guard held a sendoff ceremony May 18, 2021, at Camp Johnson, Vermont, for Soldiers assigned to Task Force Mansfield and the 172nd Public Affairs Detachment. The Soldiers among the last of about 1,000 to deploy to U.S. European Command and U.S. Central Command to support federal missions.

Vermont Guard to construct light demolition range at CEATS

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont — Construction for a Light Demolition Range will begin this summer on the Vermont Army National Guard’s Camp Ethan Allen Training Site in Jericho, Vermont. The new range will allow traditional Soldiers who usually drill one weekend a month and two weeks a year to maximize training time by avoiding travel to Fort Drum, New York.

Family Programs class offers parenting, relationship tips

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont — The Vermont National Guard Family Programs Office held an online seminar on April 7 to give parents tips to strengthen their relationships with their children as family members deploy or prepare for deployment.
