Col. William H. Wagner

Commander, 124th Regional Training Institute

Col. William H. Wagner is the Commander, 124th Regional Training Institute, Vermont Army National Guard. In this role, he ensures Soldiers from the Vermont National Guard, as well as service members from other states, Department of Defense Components, and international forces, receive the highest degree of professional, functional, and specialty training. 

Colonel Wagner enlisted in the Army Reserve in 1992 as a Signal Support Systems Specialist in Massena, New York, followed by the 414th Civil Affairs Battalion in Utica, New York. He was commissioned in the New York Army National Guard as a Military Police Officer in 1996 after completing ROTC at Syracuse University. 

Colonel Wagner recently mobilized with the Vermont Army National Guard’s Critical Infrastructure Team to Fort George G. Meade, Maryland, where he served as the Operations Director for U.S. Cyber Command’s Joint Mission Operations Center and subsequently as the Interim G3X for Army Cyber Command. He previously served as the G6 in the Vermont Army National Guard; Deputy G6; commander, 4th Signal Training Battalion, 124th Regional Training Institute; Signal Officer, 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Mountain) while deployed to Afghanistan; 3-172nd Infantry Battalion S6 and S4. Prior to joining the Vermont Army National Guard in 2005, he served as Commander, Delta Company, 1-105th Infantry Battalion; Anti-Armor Company Executive Officer; Military Police Platoon Leader, 27th Infantry Brigade; and Platoon Leader with the 105th Military Police Company while deployed to Bosnia in 1999.
