The Provost Marshal Office establishes and maintains communication with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to get direct notification when members of the Vermont National Guard have been arrested or may pose a threat to the organization. The office will establish and maintain communication with state attorneys' offices for tracking Vermont National Guard members who have been criminally charged and provide assistance where needed.
In addition, the office will investigate allegations of misconduct of Vermont National Guard Soldiers and Airmen, work closely with the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, judge advocate general, and local law enforcement when a report has been made. Finally, the PMO will assist civilian law enforcement agencies and the Office of Complex Investigations with investigations and reports as needed.
The Provost Marshal is the chief law enforcement officer for the Vermont National Guard. They investigate, document, and report all law enforcement-related matters that affect or influence the Vermont National Guard and its members to the adjutant general. They assist and coordinate with federal, state, and local law enforcement, assist the director of military support in matters related to force protection, antiterrorism, security, and domestic threats, and they develop and maintain policies and procedures for the operation of the Provost Marshal Office.
The Provost Marshal Office is the primary liaison between the Vermont National Guard and federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Their role is to report and document criminal activity within the Vermont National Guard, to coordinate with the state attorney's office and state attorney general in Vermont National Guard cases, to respond, report and document sexual assault allegations within the Vermont National Guard, and to coordinate with sexual assault response coordinators, law enforcement agencies, the state attorney's office and attorney general in sexual assault cases in which a member of the Vermont National Guard is alleged to be a perpetrator.
In addition, the PMO oversees Vermont National Guard resources in direct support to civilian authority events, oversees security-related issues including antiterrorism and security for VIPs, works with the director of military support and federal agencies in matters related to antiterrorism and force protection, and shares information with the director of military support and law enforcement agencies related to criminal threats, handling sensitive information.
