The Garrison Support Command (GSC) provides support and oversight for a diverse array of units that provide critical support for the State of Vermont and US Army. The GSC is comprised of the 86th Troop Command, Detachment 1 (Range Operations), Medical Readiness Detachment, and 15th Civil Support Team. Troop Command, the most diverse of the GSC teams, includes three aviation units (UH-60 Medical Evacuation, UH-72 Security and Support, and C12 fixed wing operational support), 40th Army Band, military police, a trial defense unit, a public affairs detachment, and a cyber operations unit.

The Troop Command is the most deployed of the GSC units, and perhaps the most deployed in the state of Vermont, with its aviators and cyber operations Soldiers conducting deployments on average once every 3-5 years. The 15th Civil Support Team is also extremely active, with a day-to-day mission of providing support nation-wide to events such as the Boston Marathon, Kentucky Derby, and major sporting events. The Range Operations Detachment team stays busy running the premier Ethan Allen Firing Range, a region-wide training asset located in the heart of Vermont’s Green Mountains. Finally, the Medical Readiness Detachment devotes its time to supporting deploying units by ensuring Soldiers are medically prepared for the rigors of their job. GSC units work on a daily basis in support of state and national missions of the highest importance and difficulty.
