Vermont Soldiers return from D.C.

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont  –  

About 100 Soldiers deployed to the Capitol region of Washington D.C. since Jan. 16, 2021 will return to Vermont Feb. 21 between 3-5 p.m. Due to COVID-19 mitigation efforts, only media is invited to attend the arrival.

The National Guard has supported the Inauguration every four years since George Washington. This year, the Vermont National Guard joined over 20,000 other Soldiers and Airmen from across the country to support federal and local agencies ensure a peaceful inauguration. Several thousand service members remained in D.C. following the Inauguration in order to support federal agencies maintain security.

Ten New York Army National Guard Soldiers who received the Purple Heart on May 10, 2025 at the Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor, New York display their certificates following the ceremony.
