Adjutant general to travel to Senegal as part of State Partnership Program

Vermont National Guard Public Affairs

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont  –

Vermont Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Greg Knight, will visit Senegal the week of July 25-31 in continued support of the State Partnership Program.

Knight will use the opportunity to reconnect with Senegalese leadership in person after COVID-19 prevented travel for the past year and a half.

“The relationships we develop in our partner nations are vital to the success of the program,” Knight said. “The ability to work with our Senegalese colleagues provides mutually beneficial experiences. We see this in the many projects and exercises our service members execute in support of the partnership.”

While in Senegal, Knight will also visit the Vermont National Guard members currently supporting a medical readiness exercise in St. Louis, as well as an ongoing munitions stockpile management training currently underway with Senegalese and Austrian forces.

The Vermont National Guard and Senegal have participated in over 300 combined projects and exercises together since partnering through the National Guard’s State Partnership program more than a decade ago. Most recently, three members of the Senegalese Fire Brigade spent a week in Vermont training with multiple disaster response agencies, while 18 members of the Vermont National Guard traveled to Senegal to participate in a medical readiness exercise.

Vermont has partnered with Senegal since 2008 and North Macedonia since 1993. The State Partnership Program is an innovative, cost-effective, and small footprint security cooperation program that connects the National Guard with the militaries of partner-nations around the world.
