Vermont National Guard to host Memorial Day ceremony and Fallen Hero Memorial rededication

Vermont National Guard Public Affairs

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont  –

The Vermont National Guard will host a ceremony recognizing Memorial Day and the rededication of the Fallen Heroes Memorial here on May 27 at 11 a.m.

The Fallen Heroes Memorial, originally constructed within the gates of Camp Johnson in 2011, has been relocated to outside the gates to allow for easier access by Gold Star families and the public. This serves as an opportunity to rededicate the memorial, designed to honor Vermonters who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our nation and our state.

The ceremony is intended to honor the fallen from all conflicts and all branches of service. It will include remarks from our keynote speakers, the placing of a wreath at the Fallen Heroes Memorial and other military traditions for rendering honors to our fallen Service Members and their families who have sacrificed so much while serving their country.

The ceremony will include a flyover of F-35s from the 158th Fighter Wing, Vermont Air National Guard.

The work included re-piping the heating system, installing LED lighting and replacing ceiling tiles. It could have cost the Illinois Army National Guard from $225,000 to $418,000 had it been contracted out. Courtesy photo.
