VTARNG to hold welding challenge among Vt. tech colleges

Vermont National Guard Public Affairs

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont  –

The Vermont Army National Guard will host a series of welding challenges at three different Vermont technical colleges, followed by a virtual awards ceremony. School instructors will determine a team of four students to compete. VTARNG will provide Students with a material list and project idea a week before the event, allowing time to create sketches.

The students will use welding trailers to build their projects. Students will have the opportunity to use metal and tungsten inert gas oxy acetylene torches, as well as stick welders. VTARNG will also provide a plasma cutting station. VTARNG will collect final products and will grade them offsite against the other participating schools’ projects.

When and Where:
May 11 – Cold Hollow Career Center
May 12 – Northwest Career & Technical Center
May 13 – Randolph Technical Career Center
May 14 – Facebook Live Awards Ceremony

These contests provide students the opportunity to train with and familiarize themselves with equipment that the VTARNG provides to our welders. The Allied Trade section will help prepare students who will work with welders in Bravo Company, 186th Brigade Support Battalion for this event.

This community event not only helps to build relationships with our state’s technical centers but provides students with a better understanding of the job specialties the VTARNG offers within their communities.
