Vermont Soldiers depart for U.S. Africa Command

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vermont  –  

The Vermont National Guard will deploy over 100 soldiers to multiple locations across U.S. Africa Command on March 10, 2021, from the Army Aviation Flight Facility. These soldiers are primarily from the 572nd Brigade Engineer Battalion and the 1st Squadron, 172nd Cavalry (Mountain), both part of 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Mountain).

These soldiers have been preparing for over a year as part of about 950 Vermont Army National Guard Soldiers deploying across U.S. Europe Command, U.S. Africa Command and U.S. Central Commands throughout the first half of 2021. The National Guard’s federal mission is what prepares and equips members to perform state missions, such as COVID-19 response, when requested by the governor.
