State Command Sgt. Maj. Change of Responsibility Ceremony

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont  –  

The State Command Sgt. Maj. Change of Responsibility Ceremony from outgoing State Command Sgt. Maj. Joseph (Toby) Quick III to incoming State Command Sgt. Maj. Nathan Chipman is scheduled to occur July 13, 2019, at 11 a.m. The ceremony will recognize the transition of responsibility from Quick to Chipman as the state command sergeant major, who is the senior enlisted adviser for Vermont National Guard members.

Brig. Gen. Gregory Knight, the Vermont National Guard adjutant general, will serve as presiding officer for the ceremony.

The Change of Responsibility is the traditional ceremonial event of exchanging the State Colors from the outgoing state command sergeant major to the incoming state command sergeant major. This position is the highest enlisted position held in the Vermont National Guard and acts as the senior enlisted adviser to enlisted members while providing counsel to Vermont’s Adjutant General.
