Increased Range Operations at Camp Ethan Allen Training Site

Vermont National Guard Public Affairs

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont  –

Units in the Vermont Army National Guard will be firing outside of normal hours Feb. 7-12.

“Our current National Defense Strategy requires increased readiness for the Army National Guard which translates to more training days and requirements for Vermont's 86th Brigade,” said Col. Nathan Lord, commander, 86th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Mountain). “We will continue to do what we can to mitigate training impact and be more sensitive to our neighbors in the local communities around Camp Ethan Allen Training Site.”

“ARNG 4.0” is the next phase of the Army National Guard evolution. There is more training demands on service members especially in years when there is a large scale training exercise. The 86th IBCT will participate in a Joint Readiness Training Center rotation in May. JRTC is the largest training exercise available for a brigade in the Army. The 86th IBCT last participated in a JRTC rotation in 2014.

Any planned increases in range use outside of the normal firing hours will be communicated as early as possible. The Vermont Army National Guard will continue researching and working with the community to mitigate the impact the range has on the community.
