Guard Soldiers aid vaccination efforts

Vermont National Guard Public Affairs

CAMP JOHNSON, Vermont  –

The Vermont National Guard will expand the state’s vaccination capacity by providing vaccines starting today through March 7.

Task Force Coyote, a unit that has served Vermont from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic nearly one year ago will administer the vaccines at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Burlington. Eligible Vermonters can register through the Vermont Department of Health website.

“The Vermont National Guard has been a crucial partner in our state’s response to the pandemic,” said Gov. Phil Scott. “They have excelled whenever called upon to assist and they will continue to play an important role with our vaccination rollout strategy.”

Task Force Coyote expects to administer as many as 400 vaccines per day. Over 50 Vermont National Guard members will begin orders to support a second round of clinics for March 9 through March 13.

“We understand how important deployment of the vaccine is at this stage of the game,” said Col. Randall Gates, director of military support, Vermont Army National Guard. “We are eager to get out there and continue supporting the fight against this virus in our communities.”

The Vermont National Guard is working side-by-side with Vermont Emergency Management, the Vermont Department of Health, Governor Scott’s office, and all emergency response personnel to support a whole-of-government approach.  Vermont National Guard missions are in direct support of the Governor, the Vermont Department of Health and the Department of Emergency Management in combatting COVID-19.  The Vermont National Guard has supported Vermont’s COVID-19 response by providing meals, collecting samples, building test kits, operating the Strategic National Stockpile, assisting in contact tracing, and will now provide vaccines to eligible Vermonters.
