Vermont National Guard and Austria forge ahead with new initiatives in the State Partnership Program

In a significant demonstration of support for the strengthening relationship between the Vermont National Guard and Austria, Gen. Daniel Hokanson, Chief of the National Guard Bureau, joined Maj. Gen. Gregory Knight, The Adjutant General of the Vermont National Guard, and Brig. Gen. Tracy Poirier, Director of the Joint Staff, in key meetings with the Austrian Bundesheer leadership.

Vermont Army National Guard Soldier Volunteers for Deployment in Poland

Soldiers who actively seek additional deployment opportunities often do so for various reasons. For U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Andrew Campagne, Vermont Army National Guard, the reason was simple. “I honestly like being on active duty.” Campagne explained, “Throughout my time in the National Guard I’ve always volunteered for deployments or State Partnership Program missions. I was on the Task Force Avalanche 21 deployment to Saudi Arabia, and while there, I was trolling for another deployment on the Tour of Duty website. I applied for a position as Operations Sgt. Maj. with V Corps in Poland, and I got a phone call from the V Corps Command Sergeant Major, and two months later I was here.”

Vermont Airmen and Soldiers Assist After Historic Flooding

Floodwaters caused historic and catastrophic devastation throughout the state of Vermont during the course of two days beginning Monday, July, 10th 2023. Montpelier, Vermont’s capital city, was battered by a record setting 5.28 inches of rainfall on Monday alone — more than any other day on record. This week, the Vermont National Guard was activated to action to assess the damage.

Vermont National Guard Delivers Water as Part of Flood Relief

In response to the recent floods that struck several towns in Vermont, 186th Brigade Support Battalion Soldiers stepped up to provide critical aid. On July 13-14, the battalion delivered approximately 70,000 liters of water, contained in 92 pallets, to the towns of Marshfield, Morrisville, Woodstock, and Ludlow, ensuring that essential supplies reached the affected communities.

Vermont National Guard and Urban Search and Rescue Teams Assist in Flood Response Efforts

The Vermont National Guard Soldiers quick reaction force worked with North Carolina and Massachusetts urban search and rescue teams to rescue and relocate 27 people and their pets in Cambridge.
