From Vermont to Antartica (and Back)
Vermont Air National Guard Base, S. Burlington, Vt. - Penguins near the McMurdo Station where Maj. Esther Lee, a chaplain assigned to the 158th Fighter Wing, Vermont Air National Guard, worked and lived for two months, supporting the National Science Foundations efforts, Antarctica, January 18, 2020. Various countries maintain research stations in Antarctica, with the U.S. running the McMurdo Station and Amundsen-Scott station, both of which rely on the 109th Airlift Wing, New York Air National Guard, as the sole source of airlift that delivers personnel and supplies each year through Operation Deep Freeze, a six-month deployment to the arctic.
